Sparkling Sha-ba-da

Fancy an insight into the most playful and whimsical side of 60s and 70s Italian cinema? We’ve put together a sparkling selection of wordless vocal pieces from film soundtracks, all of which feature vocalisms based on ear-pleasing and distinctive syllables such as sha-ba-da, doo-be-doo, and so forth. This music is cheerful, easy listening and fun, reflecting the vibe of the pop movies it was written for – quirky comedies in particular (a genre that seems especially suitable for the catchy pop-lounge flourishes found in these tracks), but also sexy comedies, spy thrillers and other popular genres.

Alessandro Alessandroni duets with wife Giulia De Mutiis and leads his vocal group I Cantori Moderni into swirling, Bach-esque fugues or dreamlike vocal chases, while Edda Dell’Orso graces with her talent compositions by Silvano D’Auria, Bruno Battisti D’Amario and the Alessandroni-De Filippi duo. Also notable are the unique Annamaria Rame and Enzo Minuti’s Minus Vocal Group.
