Jolly Mare

Jolly Mare is the moniker of DJ/producer and multi-instrumentalist Fabrizio Martina, who has been gaining international recognition across the electronic music scene for his fascinating blend of Italo disco, library music and boogie re-interpretations.

After the release of his debut LP Mechanics (Bastard Jazz, 2016), he was inspired by the chance discovery of a rare Japanese synth module for his sophomore album Logica Natura (Orbeatize, 2018), an experiment with the use of live acoustic drums to generate melodic synth patterns.

In his third LP, Epsilon (International Feel, 2021), he uses vintage folk instruments and analogue synthesizers like only a contemporary visionary can, creating music that is at once familiar and exotic, local and universal, retro and futuristic – a new original sound that carries in its DNA the history of forgotten musical cultures.

In this sense, Jolly Mare continues an Italian tradition that goes back to Afro-cosmic disco, and beyond it to the experimentation and inclusivity of the 70s and of greats like Piero Umiliani and Franco Battiato.
